The Austrian National Council has 183 members. They each earn less than 10,000 euros. Unlike members of the government, they are allowed to work part-time and earn extra money. At up to 12,000 euros per month, Karlheinz Kopp (ÖVP) is the highest-paid member of parliament in Vorarlberg.
Members of the government are banned from working in Austria. So it is not allowed to work on the page. However, this ban does not apply to members of the National Council. You can earn something extra – but you have to disclose your income.
In addition to his MP salary, Karlheinz Kopf (ÖVP) earned between 8,000 and 12,000 euros each month last year. Among other things, he is the General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and on the Advisory Board of ZM3 Real Estate Company.
Spalt (FPÖ) and Einwallner (SPÖ) are the top earners
In second place among the Vorarlberg MPs is Thomas Spald from the FPÖ. He earned between 4,000 and 8,000 euros per month. Spald is, among other things, a city councilor in Feldkirch.
The third highest earning member of the National Council from Vorarlberg is Reinhold Einwallner. In 2023, in addition to his salary, he earned between 1,100 and 1,500 euros per month. Einwallner runs an optician’s shop in Bregenz.
