Russia used a new, multi-ton bomb in the war

The Russian military is relying on a new super-heavy bomb in its offensive in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine. “Given the significant destructive effect of this explosive device, the operation can be described as a success,” Russian state news agency TASS quoted Kremlin-affiliated military analyst Igor Korodchenko as saying today. This advance can be successfully completed by an operation against the most important infrastructure assets of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to media reports, a hospital was bombed during the first drop. Pictures published by Russian military bloggers show the massive explosive effect. So far two works have been documented. After the first bombing at a hospital in Lipzi the day before, a second bomb destroyed a school building in the same city. The Russian military says there were soldiers there and these were military targets.

Three tons of bomb

The FAB-3000 gliding bomb dropped from the aircraft weighs three tons, and the warhead alone is said to weigh about 1,200 kilograms. Since the bomb can be guided to its target by its wings, it can be dropped from a distance of more than 30 kilometers.

So Russian pilots usually drop bombs over Russian territory. This is one of the reasons why Kiev has repeatedly called for the ability to strike military targets on Russian territory with Western weapons, in addition to increased anti-aircraft defenses.
