MEDONLINE: The theme of this year’s training days in Cross is “Emergence in Medicine”. To what extent do we face upheaval?

University – Prof. Dr. Gerhard Wirnsberger: We are facing upheaval in many respects. On the one hand, patients are getting older and multimorbid, and they are making more and more demands on the medical profession. On the other hand, there is a shortage of doctors and nurses, which has become even worse during the corona pandemic.

Young doctors no longer want to work like they used to, the buzzword being “work-life balance.” Baby boomers are now retiring one by one. Older people may want to continue working, but it is not easy for them. A suitable working environment should be created for them. The question also arises as to what will be the conditions of the tax structure such as additional income limit on pension. In this regard, there is no need to accommodate the old government employees. All of these questions will be addressed in a preliminary symposium titled “Geriatric Medicine Meets Business.”
