After 5 pm, the mayor of Michelhausen, Bernhard Heinl, confirmed the information that the rust cadastral was to be completely evacuated. The federal army was called in with transport vehicles to support the emergency services.
“We now want to make the best use of daylight hours for the campaign,” explains Heinl. Another wave of flooding is expected as part of the Perchling Dam has already breached and rain continued on Monday.
As the dams are already badly damaged, there are fears that this wave will have dire consequences. “That’s why the civil defense alarm is triggered, and people are told that Rust has to be evacuated all over the city,” explains Heinl.
Perchling is rising sharply again
As of Monday afternoon, Perchling continued to rise and “there’s a new wave coming,” confirmed Stephen Ollerer, a spokesman for the county fire department. As the dam has broken at many places, water is coming from many places.
Hard hit on Monday evening: Zwentendorf, Michelhausen, Atzenbrugg, where many cadastrals are to be evacuated. In addition to Rust, Kronau, Langenschönbichl and Langenrohr, the situation in Kleinschönbichl and Erpersdorf is being assessed and residents have been asked to prepare for evacuation.
Parts of Judena were also evacuated again on Monday evening.
Emergency shelters have been set up at the Tulln trade fair, where most of the victims will be brought initially.
