“Thirty-five years ago, when I first came here, I was already a mother of three,” Streep said on stage. “I was about to turn 40 and I thought my career was over. That was not an unrealistic expectation for actresses at that time.”
The 74-year-old continued: “I’m here today and continue to be because of the (…) very talented artists I’ve worked with. And because of you, each and every one of you, the audience, I’m very grateful that you’re still not tired of my face.”
Juliette Binoche’s emotional speech
Actress Juliette Binoche gave an emotional speech about Streep on stage. Through tears and stopping words, she said: “You are changing the way we see women in the world of cinema and helping us see ourselves differently.”
The inaugural function was presided over by actress Camille Ghat. In addition to Streep, this year also welcomed the jury to the stage – headed by director Greta Gerwig.
French musician Jaho de Sagsan performed David Bowie’s “Modern Love” on stage, for the “Barbie” director – a tribute to the film “Frances Ha,” in which Gerwig starred and co-starred. – Wrote the script. Song features prominently in it.
