At the beginning of May, 27 students started training as “nursing assistants” in Tyrol. This innovative initiative offers a dual training practical component in teaching and theory at the Tyrolean Vocational School.
The Tyrolean Vocational School consists of 80 percent practical teaching and 20 percent theory. Includes a minimum of 640 hours of training in nursing homes, hospitals, home care and facilities for people with disabilities.
The future of healthcare in Tyrol
The introduction of nursing apprenticeships in Tyrol in autumn 2023 lowers the barriers to entry into the nursing profession and makes training more accessible. Councilor of State Cornelia Hagel Emphasizes the importance of this initiative for the attractiveness of the nursing profession and the future of the healthcare system in Tyrol.
Completed 27 training contracts
With 27 completed training contracts, Tyrol exceeds the Austrian average. Most of the students come from the Innsbruck area and are employed by the Innsbruck social services. Dual training guarantees practical training, which familiarizes students with the needs of everyday working life at an early stage.
Since 15 years
Nursing apprenticeships make it possible to enter the nursing profession directly after completing compulsory schooling. The training is aimed at those aged 15 and above and lasts three years for Nursing Assistants or four years for Nursing Assistants. In addition to theoretical and practical teaching content, vocational school training also offers compulsory general education subjects and placements in various practice-related areas.
