On Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 4:10 PM, Linz Linien tram operated line 4 from Linz to Traun. At the same time, a 14-year-old Romanian boy from the Linz-Land district and his friend were cycling along the cycle path from Langholzfeld towards Pluscity.

Despite the red light

At the pedestrian crossing there, in front of the Bauhaus Pasching, they both intend to cross the tracks regardless of the red light and the approaching tram. The tram driver noticed this and immediately started emergency braking, but was unable to stop in time and crashed head-on into the 14-year-old cyclist. The collision threw him a few meters away.

Tram drivers and passengers administered first aid

The tram driver and the occupants of the tram immediately came out and administered first aid. They observed how the second cycle handler fled immediately. The injured 14-year-old boy was conscious and, after receiving initial treatment from ÖRK Tron and NEF, was taken to UKH Linz for further examination.

A passenger also sustained minor injuries

A 30-year-old passenger in the tram also suffered minor head injuries when the emergency brake was applied. After initial treatment UKH was also taken to Lins. A breathalyzer test carried out on the tram driver was negative. A 14-year-old boy may have suffered a head injury because he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The injured boy’s friend is yet to be identified. For information and reports contact the Hörsching police station on 059133-4134.
