Vienna Capitals pick up their first win of the season at VSV

Vienna Capitals beat VSV 3-2 on day two of the Win2Day ICE Hockey League.

The Capitals conceded a lot of goals in the first half of the game, but the VSV offense failed too often thanks to VIC keeper Tyler Parks. Alexander Rauchwald fires in from the right after Scherbach’s pass, but Parks denies the VSV man’s opening goal.

Vienna, on the other hand, try to create danger with quick counter-attacks. Jeremy Gregoire goes to Zane Franklin in a 3-on-1 situation, but the pass is too accurate.

Franklin gives away a penalty – Hancock scores at the other end

After the break, VSV defender Patrick Hollway beat Franklin. Viennese gets a penalty – but Franklin hits the puck with his stick.

After that, the home team got a few time penalties, but the Capitals couldn’t turn their numerical superiority into something that counted. On the other hand, John Hughes scored the supposed opening goal which was disallowed due to high stick.

A minute later, Villach actually scored the opening goal. Dylan Macpherson finished well after Gregoire tripped from the left. Parks blocks the shot and Kevin Hancock finally scores with the rebound (33’/PP).

The Capitals turn the deficit into a 3-1 victory

An abbreviated game suddenly gave the Viennese the early spark they needed, with Nicolas Hartl gaining possession behind the arc and serving a superb pass to Frederic Kemp. The VIC winger scored a stunning 1-1 equalizer (39th/SH).

In the final segment, the Capitals suddenly dominated the action on the ice. Brett Kemp capitalizes on a power play after being caught by VSV goalkeeper JP Lamoureux. The offensive crack puts the Capitals ahead with a one-timer and a low shot into the left corner (52./PP).

Jeremy Gregoire also scored a goal two minutes before the end, after Vienna won 3-1. Canadian player Jean Philippe-Lamoureux hits a short right goalkeeper corner (58′).

Dylan MacPherson then cuts the deficit with a blueliner finish. However, capitals can prevent balance.

So the Capitals can look forward to their first win of the season. So still no points for VSV.
