A 16-year-old and an 18-year-old have been charged with attempted murder. They allegedly cheated on Bill at a lin's bar and then pounced on the homeowner. Judgment is not final.
A 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were convicted of attempted murder at the Cross Regional Criminal Court on Tuesday evening. In August 2023, they cheated on Bill in a bar in Linz and then ran over the housewife with a car. He survived with serious injuries. The youth was sentenced to four years in prison and his accomplice was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Judgment is not final.
“This incident is the sad culmination of two crimes that have happened so far,” said state prosecutor Katharina Dashman, who chronicled the lives of the two defendants. The girl, who is not yet 17, and the 18-year-old, have been observed and given minor sentences several times for petty crimes such as shoplifting, driving without a license or breaking cigarette machines. “A very complex development has emerged. “You get the feeling that they don't care about anything now,” said the lawyer.
In August last year, according to the prosecutor, the two decided to “run away from home”. They took the accused's mother's car and drove from Styria to Linz. There they went into a bar and wanted to leave without paying. The waiter and the manager ran after them. The boys got into the car. When the homeowner tried to stand in their way, the 16-year-old simply drove off. Later he said he did not see the woman. “It's a miracle the girl survived,” the lawyer insisted. At length – the unlicensed driver thought she had hit the edge of a pavement. Only later did she find out from the media what really happened.
“Panic-like behavior”
Defense lawyer Bernhard Lehofer said on behalf of his client that “she is a bit lost in her development”. When she got into the car, she dropped her cell phone. She looked for it and at the same time drove and hit the woman, who fell and rolled somewhat. The prosecutor insisted that the woman never considered killing the woman: “In fact, she didn't think of anything,” the defense lawyer believed and pointed to “panic-like behavior.”
The 18-year-old's attorney said his client, who was charged with being an accessory after the fact, pleaded not guilty. At the request of the defense, the public was excluded during the trial of the two defendants.
The victim arrived in a wheelchair
The victim was brought to court by ambulance in a wheelchair and had to wait several hours to be questioned. The woman told the court she was still in pain and unable to work.
The owner of the sushi restaurant said the two young men did not immediately notice the non-payment. Realizing that, she ran after them both with a waiter. The colleague wanted to open the passenger door but was unable to do so. She herself stood in front of the car: “I wanted to take a photo on my cell phone, and then the car drove and I fell,” she described the incident in court. “I wanted to go to the side, but it was too fast and they had already left,” she continued. “How are you today?” asked Judge Katharina Schenck. “Not good, I have pains in my back and legs,” replied the woman. She has had six surgeries so far and one or two more surgeries are planned.
A jury found both defendants guilty of attempted murder. The 16-year-old was sentenced to 4 years in prison and the 18-year-old was sentenced to 30 months. Judgment is not final. (APA)
