Health
According to doctors, the number of sexually transmitted diseases increases during the holidays. While these diseases have been on the decline due to improved treatments, they are now on the rise again. Protected sex and vaccinations are recommended.
Although sexually transmitted diseases occur worldwide, it is often a taboo subject. In Europe, classic sexually transmitted diseases, which have declined due to better medical treatment options, are on the rise again.
For general practitioner Alexander Moussa from Hartberg and his medical colleagues, suspected cases are now on the rise again: “It is not very common, but it is very common. We are primarily thinking here of viral diseases like HIV, hepatitis, but also bacterial infections like chlamydia, mycoplasma infections, gonorrhea, syphilis – these diseases are still common and still exist.”
Risk of long-term effects such as infertility
A sexually transmitted disease can be easily diagnosed by a urologist, gynecologist or family doctor with a smear test. This is also important because the consequences can be serious, Musa explains: “Sexual diseases are very serious. They can also cause more serious systemic diseases in the long run. They can lead to infertility, which is definitely a problem for young people, if inflammation and infections caused by sexually transmitted diseases are not recognized in time.”
Use preventive measures
A false shame in a doubtful case is very dangerous. As a protective measure, Dr. Moussa recommends: “Above all, protected sex, i.e. using condoms, and vaccine preventions such as hepatitis can be well prevented here.”
Incidentally, sexually transmitted diseases can have similar symptoms to other diseases. Therefore, in any case you should immediately consult a doctor.
