OpenAI provided a new version of AI, not a search engine

“GPT-4o” can answer not only written questions but also spoken questions and analyze images.

At its spring event, ChatGPT developer OpenAI presented the latest version of its artificial intelligence (AI). However, the software company has decided not to launch an AI-powered web search engine, which has been the subject of speculation in recent days.

OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati focused on “GPT-4o” during her talk on Monday. This improved language model, the basis for the chatbot ChatGPT, works twice as fast as “GPT-4”. At the same time, the costs of calculating an answer will be less than half. So the updated technology will be available to all users in future. However, paying customers can process large amounts of data with AI.

Competition from technology firms

“GPT-4o” can answer not only written questions but also spoken questions and analyze images. In one demonstration, AI helped solve an equation written on paper.

Last week, the day before Google’s developer conference, insiders said OpenAI plans to offer a new AI search engine. This means that ChatGPT maker could steal billions in online advertising revenue from the Alphabet subsidiary. However, the OpenAI boss denied this in a post on the X messaging service on Friday. Google is expected to unveil new AI features at its developer conference. (APA)
