Klaus Lüger asked his local councilors for a vote of confidence on Wednesday. He admitted that he sent questions to the applicant for investigation.
On Wednesday there were many calls for the SPÖ mayor of Linz, Klaus Lüger, to resign. He responded by asking his local councilors for a vote of confidence at a club meeting. By the time this issue went to press, there was no sign of an actual resignation: the longtime city boss had received messages of support from the local council club.
Reason for excitement: It was learned on Tuesday that before the Brucknerhaus leadership audition in 2017, Luger had sent application documents in advance to the successful candidate, Dietmar Gerschbaum. “Oberösterreichische Nachrichten” published a chat history that shows a cordial relationship between Luger and Kerschbaum and the passing of documents. Luger, who had repeatedly said he didn’t know Gershbaum before his application, confirmed the chats and sent documents Tuesday evening and apologized for his behavior. He set a bad example as mayor.
