Every August, the Baroque patio of the City Museum becomes the center of the jazz scene in St Bolton. The first of four days of performances was opened by new artistic director Viola Falp with her Falp: Todorovsky: Novak Trio, followed by the Kolnar Quintet. In addition to Mayor Matthias Stadler and many other guests of honor, Brno City Councilor Irena Matonohova and Klara Kurikova from the Twin Cities Committee did not miss the multi-layered music on the beautiful patio under the stars.
The evening started with an excellent performance by the trio Falb:Todorovski:Novák. Viola Falp on saxophone, Milos Todorowski on accordion and Tomas Novak on violin gave an exceptional performance that reflected their passion for chamber music, improvisation and interpretation. Most of the pieces performed were written by Viola Falp, who created new worlds of sound with her compositions.
The interplay of instruments, combined with improvisation and precise interpretation, instantly captivated the audience and marked the start of an unforgettable evening.
After the trio’s mesmerizing performance, Iranian-Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist Golnar Shayar took the microphone. Born in Tehran and influenced by a wide range of musical influences, he captivated audiences with his powerful and emotionally moving voice. In his music, Shaheer combines the traditions of West Asia and North Africa with contemporary elements from Europe and America. This cultural diversity is reflected not only in sounds but also in emotional nuances.
Together with musicians from the improv scene, he transcended stylistic boundaries and created moments where music became a political act. His performance was a reminder that music is more than just entertainment – it can carry a powerful message and transcend social barriers.

Every day until Sunday there will be more musical parties in the courtyard of the city museum. Hayes and Echo Boomer can be heard on Friday night from 7:30 p.m. Django Bates and the band “Studio Dan” will be on stage Saturday night from 7:30 p.m. An experience for the whole family with the Transwiertlerische Eisenbahn from 11am on Sunday, a children’s concert for music fans and then the Jumping Jungle from 7pm.
