Hamas confirms commander killed in Lebanon attack

Atala Ali was reportedly killed in an Israeli drone strike on the Petawi refugee camp near the port city of Tripoli.

Hamas confirmed the death of one of its commanders in Lebanon on Saturday. The terror group said Atala Ali was killed in an Israeli drone strike on the Petawi refugee camp near the port city of Tripoli. Lebanese news agency NNA reported that Ali’s wife and two children were killed in the attack. A total of 25 people were killed and 127 wounded in Friday’s Israeli attacks.

The Israeli military says it has attacked pro-Iranian Hezbollah fighters at a mosque in southern Lebanon. The Israeli Air Force, using information from military intelligence, shelled a Hezbollah command center inside a mosque on the outskirts of Salah Kandur Hospital in southern Lebanon on Saturday night, the military said. It is the first time the Israeli military has struck a mosque in Lebanon since Hezbollah expanded its attacks on Israel in support of the radical Islamist Palestinian group Hamas in the Gaza war.

According to the military, Israeli ground forces have also destroyed mines and weapons depots of Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon. These targets are embedded in hilly, densely built-up areas with explosive traps. Arms and ammunition are often hidden in residential buildings. During underground combat operations, mines used by Hezbollah terrorists to approach the Israeli border were detonated. The information could not be independently verified.

Call back

The Israeli army has called on Lebanese refugees not to return to their homes. Israeli attacks on villages in Lebanon will continue, a military spokesman told Platform X. He did not specify which villages were involved. Since the intense attacks began, the Israeli military has repeatedly called on people in parts of Lebanon to leave. Following this, the Israeli army usually conducts airstrikes.

The UN reported an increase in attacks on health care in Lebanon on Saturday. “The health system is on the brink of collapse,” said Imran Riza, UN assistant coordinator for the country. More than 70 health workers have been killed in Lebanon, including 28 in 24 hours, since fresh clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began. A medical syndicate in Lebanon spoke of a “massacre by Israel against Lebanese medical workers”. Israel will prevent emergency medics from evacuating the wounded. Three hospitals had to cease operations after the Israeli attack.

Meanwhile, Israel’s army chief, Herzi Halevi, announced further decisive action against Hezbollah. “We must continue to put pressure on Hezbollah and inflict more continuous damage on the enemy, without concessions and without respite for the organization,” the Israeli commander said, according to the military.
