Boeing must write off $5 billion

US aircraft maker Boeing plans to cut 10 percent of its jobs worldwide. The group also sees a need for five billion dollars (4.57 billion euros) in depreciation, as announced on Friday after the US stock market closed. The commercial aviation segment is responsible for three billion US dollars, with the rest going to defense, aerospace and defence.

In the commercial aviation sector, Boeing’s customers are facing even longer waits for the 777-9s they ordered. The group now doesn’t expect first delivery until 2026. For the 777-8 freighter, by 2028. A year earlier, production of the earlier model 767 had ceased.

Boeing also announced preliminary key data for the third quarter. Sales will be $17.8 billion, nearly a billion less than experts had previously expected. The loss per share is said to be less than $10. Additionally, Boeing may have burned $1.3 billion operationally.

In after-hours trading, Boeing’s share price initially fell 1.5 percent. As they exited regular trading, the shares were still up 3 percent.
