FC Salzburg fans took drastic measures on Tuesday evening.
“Alex Schlager” chanted “Alex Schlager” immediately after goalkeeper and captain Janis Blaszwicz led the way to score 3-0 in the Champions League home game against Stadt Brest. to do
Schlager himself was visibly uncomfortable with these chants and tried to stop them from the bench with hand signals towards the North Stand (see picture).
As is well known, the ÖFB goalkeeper lost his regular place in the Bulls team this summer after starting the season with a knee injury.
Blaswich was loaned out by sister club RB Leipzig and immediately appointed captain. The 33-year-old has made a few mistakes so far, including one in two Champions League games, which is why many Salzburg fans now want Schlager back in goal.

Lijnders appeal to fans
Coach Pep Lijnders has always stood guard in front of Blaswich and there is no doubt about his role as one. On Tuesday, the Dutchman brought his team into the dressing room immediately after the final whistle, before they said goodbye to their home fans.
The Dutchman did not want to respond to the chants at the post-match press conference. He tries to diplomatically answer questions like:
“My main job as a coach is to ensure the relationships in the team and ensure that the communication between the players is at a high level. I wanted to take care of that right after the game.”
He tells the fans: “I understand football: if management, team, staff and fans think alike and want the same thing, good things happen. We win together, we lose together.”
Blaswich’s rally was booed by Salzburg fans just before the end. “Sky” expert Peter Stoeger clearly criticizes this behavior of fans:
“I have no sympathy for the fans. It’s picking on someone, it doesn’t help anyone, shows zero respect for the player and sends a completely wrong signal to the team,” said the former Wiener Austria champion coach.
