Actor Gérard Depardieu in custody

French film star Gérard Depardieu has been summoned by police following allegations of sexual assault. He is in custody and will be questioned, police sources said on Monday. In particular, there were complaints from two women earlier that year that they were sexually harassed during the filming of two films in 2014 and 2021.

During the filming of “Le Magicien et les Siamois” in 2014, Depardieu allegedly molested a 24-year-old assistant director. She alleged that he harassed her with “obscene words” and had “his feet all over her body”. Another woman also came forward against the “Asterix and Obelix” actor. The stagehand, 53, explained that Depardieu “seized him brutally” while working on “Volets Verdes” in September 2021. He also allegedly touched her “waist, stomach and chest” until he was stopped by his bodyguards.

Inquiries from 2020

The 75-year-old has already been sexually assaulted several times. Since 2020, the Department of Justice has been investigating the rape case against actress Charlotte Arnold. More than a dozen women, including journalist and writer Ruth Basa, have accused him of assault and harassment.

Depardieu completely denies the allegations. French President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly defended the actor and insisted on the presumption of innocence. The actor is one of France's most popular movie stars. He has worked with prominent directors and actresses of the country and acted in more than 200 films.
