Serbia’s association has called on UEFA after anti-Serbian chants from Croatian and Albanian fans.
Serbia’s national football team has threatened to withdraw from the European Championship. According to media reports, Croatian and Albanian supporters stood out during the fight between the two nations on Wednesday (2:2), chanting, among other things, to kill the Serbs. Jovan Surbatovic, general secretary of Serbia’s association, called on UEFA to respond with tougher sanctions. If this doesn’t happen, “we will consider how to proceed.”
General Secretary of the Association of Serbia Surbatovic: “What happened is scandalous”
“What happened was disgraceful. We should request sanctions from UEFA, even if it does not continue the competition,” Sarbatovic said on Serbian broadcaster RTS. Serbia lost 0-1 in their first match against England in Group C. The second match is scheduled for Thursday (today) against Slovenia.
Surbatovic was confident that Europe’s continental association would impose a fine. After showing a nationalistic gesture, UEFA has already withdrawn recognition for the European Championship from Kosovo journalist Arlind Sadiku. Serbia’s association said Caste should be allowed to make an Albanian double-headed eagle with his hands during a live broadcast of a game against England.
Serbia fined 10,000 euros after provocative news
Serbia has already been fined 10,000 euros after fans showed provocative messages. English media reported that England players were booed during their group match against Serbia. The fan in question was not arrested or ejected from the Gelsenkirchen stadium, although guards and police were present. UEFA announced it would investigate the alleged discriminatory conduct.
