Last year more than 11,000 people sought help from trade union experts in Korneuburg. The balance sheet is impressive: almost four million euros were “won” for employees, and 60 percent of cases were settled out of court.
District | City of Kornburg. AK President Alfred Jordan says the concerns of staff returning to AK Korneuburg are varied.
“They range from five-minute meetings to complex interventions lasting several weeks. Here the focus is primarily on terminating employment relationships and verifying invoices and potentially outstanding wages and salaries.”
Have you ever sought help from a labor council?
The fact that 60 percent of problems can be solved out of court brings many advantages: the matter is resolved quickly, while legal proceedings often take a very long time. Additionally, according to Jordan, many court cases end in a settlement anyway.
Regional contact point
With a wide range of services, the Labor Chamber sees itself as a direct contact point in the region. From labor and social law matters to information on pensions and maternity leave to help with the tax equation – the spectrum is wide, “everything flows hand-in-hand for us,” says Jordan.
And speaking of tax equalization: last year, 578 employee assessments were carried out in AK Korneuburg, which ultimately managed to recover 650,000 euros in overpaid taxes – an average of 1,124 euros per person.
This is how AK Korneuburg helps
A woman from Korneuburg worked in a company for a year. One day she was sick, but she still came to work. It kept getting worse and it was necessary to see the doctor at lunchtime. The woman from Kornuburg immediately wrote that she was ill. Every attempt to inform the employer failed. Eventually, the woman sent a sick note to her boss via WhatsApp, but again there was no response.
“It came two days later in the form of deregistration papers. It was due to unauthorized early exits,” says expert Marion Claps. The woman again tried to speak to the boss, but again she was unable to reach him.
“Luckily, the woman got back to us and we were able to get an extra €5,500.”
Alfred Jordan firmly believes that this case clearly shows that going to a labor union is definitely worth it.
Challenges
Last year, in 2023, we primarily had to contend with large insolvencies. They were more active when it came to consumer protection, for example when switching gas or electricity suppliers. You should also be active in areas of housing law. This year the challenges look a little different.
“We currently deal with open payroll and advise on childcare and maternity leave in Sahaen”
said Claps.
If you haven't done so yet: You can get an AK childcare bonus of 150 euros in Lower Austria via the Chamber of Labor homepage – easy and bureaucratic.
7,900 bankruptcies in Lower Austria
Last year, 156,000 consultations were held in the 21 district offices of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labour, resulting in 90.1 million euros raised for employees. Professionals had a lot to do when it came to bankruptcies like Kicka or Forstinger.
“We are registering a 153 percent increase here.”
AK-Vice President Thomas Schaffer explains.
This makes their participation in the upcoming AK elections from 10th to 23rd April 2024 all the more important. This is the only way to get the support needed to continue providing all services at the current level.
