Integration of communities and regions was the central theme at the 70th Austrian Community Day in Oberwart, which opened today, Wednesday.
Around 1,400 mayors, municipal councilors and municipal employees from all over Austria are expected to attend the conference on Wednesday and Thursday. The catastrophic events of the past few days show how important local cooperation and exchange of experience between communities is. State Governor Hans-Peter Toskozil outlined the state’s plans for renewable energy, stressing the importance of communities and their fire departments in the event of a disaster: “Every household, every company, every community must be provided with an equal share of energy. That means energy will become cheaper and easier to plan for everyone.
Toskozil also explained the government’s efforts to further expand security of supply in the health and care sectors. This is done through a new model of 71 maintenance sites, which ensures adequate maintenance across the country.
The Community Day, organized by the Austrian Association of Municipalities, is accompanied by a community fair. About 300 exhibitors are involved.
