The Association of Catering Establishments (ACE) calls on Government to allow full opening at the immediate. The situation is becoming more and more difficult with more establishments reporting risk of closing permanently. This is over and above the numbers reported by ACE over the last weeks. ACE would like to remind that there is no statistical or scientific evidence that catering establishments have been a reason for the spread of the virus.
The issuance of the vouchers together with the opening of the establishments is also critical to encourage consumption to mitigate on the financial difficulties that many establishments are facing.
The ACE has welcomed various Government measures particularly those launched recently by Hon Clayton Bartolo regarding MTA licences and those by Hon Miriam Dalli with respect to rents and W&E.
The financial panic in the sector is an unprecedented one with some trying to find desperate measures to try to survive. The ACE does not feel that any price surcharges are adequate at the moment, but it does understand that certain members are looking into alternative ways to survive. In this aspect, whilst it calls on members to look at the long-term impact of certain propositions it reiterates that this is a free market.
The ACE calls on the general public to assist catering establishments by planning their relaxation and celebration time within the opening hours allowed.
