President of Malta George Vella presided over a press conference announcing a virtual national conference marking 100 years since the 1921 Constitution (100 sena mill-Kostituzzjoni tal-1921).
“This was a significant moment in the constitutional history of our country,” said the President, as he explained how the historical, social, political, religious and other events which took place in that period will be addressed during the webinar.
Explaining how we must acknowledge the wisdom of Maltese leaders over the years, the President stated that, through this webinar, he would like the people of Malta to understand better who they are, having a history that should give us a sense of pride but, above all, help us understand that unity is always important to move forward.
Professor Ray Mangion explained how 1921 is a very important date in the history of our homeland, as it marked for the first time an event that the people of Malta had long been working for. An event which, in his words, was important not only for the legislative system, but also the institutional one.
The virtual conference will be held on Saturday, 17th April 2021, and the keynote speakers will be Prof. Ray Mangion, Professor at the Faculty of Laws in the University of Malta, Prof. Joe Pirotta, retired Head of the Department of International Relations, Prof. Frances Camilleri Cassar, Professor at the Faculty of Laws, Prof. JosAnn Cutajar, Associate Professor at the Faculty for Social Wellbeing and Rev.
