The latest figures on unemployment show that last December Malta had a lower-than-average rate than other EU member states, as well as the lowest rate in the Eurozone.
Eurostat figures show that in December there were 4.5% unemployed people in our country, the same rate since October, when in the member countries the rate was 7.5% and those within the Eurozone the rate was 8.3%. Among those under the age of 25, unemployment in our country was 11% when among the member countries it reached 17.8% and among those in the Eurozone it was 18.5%.
The figures also show that while 4.5% of men and 4.4% of local women were unemployed in December, 7.9% of men and even women were unemployed in the EU, while in other countries of the Eurozone the rate was 8.8% for both. In terms of individuals, Eurostat figures show that in Malta and Gozo there were 12,000 job seekers when in the member states there were 16 million, with 13.6 million among other Eurozone states.
