The scheme for opening an office in Gozo and the relocation of business in Gozo are two schemes launched by the Government which are expected to incentivise more businesses to operate from Gozo and to create quality jobs at the same time.
The opening of an office in Gozo run by Gozitan workers based on the island, is a budget measure for this year and will encourage more work for Gozitans in Gozo. Each company can benefit up to a maximum of € 35,000 per year from this scheme, where a partial salary refund is granted up to a maximum of € 8,700 per employee over a period of 3 years, depending on the employee’s salary.
The Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, explained that the other scheme, that of relocating business to Gozo, will encourage not only job creation but also the increase investment in Gozo. He said that this is expected to benefit both Maltese and international companies. The scheme offers financial assistance according to the number of employees proposed, for relocation costs, which does not exceed € 3,750. The second financial package launched will provide financial support of one thousand euros for each employee listed in the business relocation plan, up to a maximum of € 40,000.
“I believe that with these measures we will create a number of new jobs but we will also incentivise companies to step up and open their operations in Gozo.” Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that employees registered in order to receive a financial grant must be offered a contract of a minimum of 3 years.
