In a statement, leftist movement Żminijietna, said that “the damage sustained by the interconnector further confirms that Malta should continue to maintain control in energy production”.
The movement added that “new Labour Prime Minister should consider renationalisation of all energy production in Malta”. Moreover, the statement continued that, “the Labour Government’s investment in switching to gas and not be dependent on external sources including the interconnector, was a wise move”.
Meanwhile, at a press conference held on Monday, 30 December, Enemalta has stated that the interconnector has sustained substantial damage and again there is a possibility of more power outages in the coming weeks. Enemalta added that it was making the necessary investigations to determine the extent of the damage sustained by the interconnector.
