In a report published earlier today, online newspaper Maltatoday has revealed that Times of Malta journalist, Ivan Camilleri, has allegedly been caught shoplifting from a supermarket in Naxxar. The report penned by veteran journalist and Maltatoday founder, Saviour Balzan, claims that Camilleri was caught taking the items on CCTV and was eventually confronted by the establishment’s management.
Maltatoday revealed that this has been confirmed by the supermarket owner, who at the same time did not wish to comment further on this case involving one of the most confrontational journalists of the Times of Malta.
The report continues that Ivan Camilleri was called in by the supermarket management after they were informed of the incident by workers who witnessed the incident on the supermarket’s security camera.
Although the value of the shoplifted goods is still unknown, it has been alleged that these are of high value and were described as ‘highly – priced goods’. It appears that after contact by the supermarket in question, Camilleri admitted to taking the goods and agreed to reimburse the amount due to the establishment.
When contacted by Maltatoday for his comment, Ivan Camilleri threatened the paper with legal action, reiterating that this was a fabricated story intent on tarnishing his reputation and integrity.
