This summer was extremely busy for the Spanish clubs as a lot of transfers were carried out. A lot of money was involved in order to improve most of the top-tier clubs. The top three transfers were Joao Felix (£113.4 million), Antoine Griezmann (£108 million) and Eden Hazard (£90 million). The fans are surely expecting big things from these players. In the last few days of the transfer market, few clubs have been looking for new recruits, since there were many clubs that knew from the beginning which players they wanted and bought them immediately.
Their work this summer is paying off; although only three games were played, they are the 1st and only team with full points. It has surely been a summer to remember because they have purchased several players who will provide quality in the team. They have bought players throughout the summer starting with the club’s record signing Joao Felix who is the second most expensive teenager. Mario Hermoso is also another addition in Simeone’s squad. Following the departure of Diego Godin to Inter, Atletico paid a £22 million fee for their new player. Another defender who was purchased this summer is the former Porto man Felipe. The Brazilian came at a price of £18 million for a 3 year contract with ‘El Atleti’. A fee of £18 million was also paid to Athletico Paranaense for Renan Lodi who signed until the year 2025.
The club knew from the beginning what they wanted and have purchased several young talents along with the Belgian national team captain, Eden Hazard. Luka Jovic is also another player who will be an asset for the team after his positive season last year with Eintracht Frankfurt. Keylor Navas has been given the nod to leave the club as he was unhappy being the second goalkeeper. The former PSG goalkeeper was brought in the squad on loan to be Keylor’s replacement. After his two year loan with Bayern, James Rodriguez is now back with ‘Los Blancos’ as he did not settle in when he first arrived in 2014.
Valencia had a decent start in the La Liga, garnering four points in three games. A promising youngster was purchased for a reported fee of £10.80 million from Sporting. Thierry Correia signed a contract for 5 years with ‘Los Ches’. The club have reached an agreement with Villareal for Denis Cheryshev who signed for a sum of £5.40 million.
‘Los Hispalenses’ also had a busy summer because many players were purchased. Ronny Lopes is the most valuable, he came at a price of £22.5 million from Monaco. The Portuguese has signed for 5 years with the Spanish side. A player that will surely provide experience and quality is Javier Hernandez known as ‘Chicarito’. A fee of £7 million was paid to West Ham for the Mexican forward. A Spanish midfielder, Joan Jordan was also purchased along with Oliver Torres looking to strengthen the midfield.
Poor start to the season for Espanyol as they only managed to get one point and they have not yet scored a goal. It does look like they are in trouble this season in order to stay in Spain’s top- tier. They have spent around £10 million for the Argentinian winger Matias Vargas who has signed a contract for 5 years. Fernando Calero has signed from Real Valladolid for a reported sum of £7.20 million.
The club have purchased players who will surely be useful to the team as they are players who will make a difference. They have started the season well as they managed to get five points. A player that will surely play a crucial part this season is the Spaniard Aleix Vidal who joined the club on loan from Seville. Lucas Perez will now play in Spain again, this time with Alaves. He has joined for a fee £2 million from West Ham and has signed for four years. The former West Ham man is not the only forward who was purchased this summer as Joselu is another addition in the squad, signing for a sum of £2 million.
‘Los Pepineros’ have started off their campaign on a negative note as they do not have a point from the first three games. They have had a decent summer in purchasing new players. Martin Braithwaite signed from Middlesbrough for a sum of £8 million. The Danish has scored the only goal this season for the club. He has signed a four year contract. They have reached an agreement with Chelsea for Kenneth Omerou for a reported fee of £4.50 million.
Considering the players bought this summer, ‘Los Verdiblancos’ have had a poor start seeing them in 15th. Following the signing of Nabil Fekir, the club wanted to purchase more players that can be crucial the season to meet their end of season objectives. Borja Inglesias signed for a fee of £25.20 million from Espanyol and has signed for five years.
Following the club’s disappointing season last year, they have been surely relieved that they are playing in the Spanish top-tier this season as four points separated them from the relegation zone. Two players that were Barcelona players last season have joined the club, Denis Suarez and Rafinha. The Brazilian has joined on loan while Suarez was purchased for £11.61 million. A player that will no doubt help the team is Santi Mina who is a prolific striker despite his young age. He was purchased for free and has signed a contract for five years. A £7.20 million fee was paid to KRC Genk was Joseph Aidoo. The Ghanaian defender signed for five years with the Spanish side.
Poor start by Villareal in the league as they only managed to get two points out of three games. It was quite a busy transfer market for the club as many players were purchased and sold. Pablo Fornals and Roberto Soriano are the few that have been departed this summer. Ruben Pena was purchased from Eibar for a sum of £7.20 million. The Spanish full-back has signed for five years. An agreement with Malaga has been made for the winger, Javi Ontiveros. They have agreed on a fee of £6.75 million and has also signed for five years.
The transfer window is now closed and if the teams need to buy a player, they have to wait till the January transfer window. It was a summer to remember for the La Liga fans as top players have been purchased for a lot of money. Surely, there are several teams that will challenge for the title and have a go in Europe’s major trophies. Loren Moron and Gerard Moreno are the leading scorers this season, scoring three goals from three games. The former Atletico man, Antoine Griezmann has already settled with the club as he scored two goals. A player that has been showing great potential is no doubt Ansu Fati who is only sixteen years old and has already played two games. He managed to get his first goal in the La Liga against Osasuna. This year there is no doubt that the La Liga will be interesting, for sure clubs like Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid want to win the league and they have got what it takes to do so.
