The English Premier League has not made such an impact this summer. This is due to the teams having bought few players so far. Following Liverpool’s and Manchester City’s superb season last year, both clubs have made few purchases in order to improve their squads, while the new promoted sides are all looking to secure their place in next year`s English top tier.
The current champions have played with confidence throughout the season and it lead them to a 98 points run last year to secure their title over Liverpool, after a highly anticipated run between the two squads, with only a point separating them in the end. The Citizens managed to purchase the Spanish midfielder from Atletico Madrid for £63 million. Rodri has signed a five year contract and is the most valuable player in the club`s history. He is City’s second signing in two days after activating a buy-back clause of £5.3 million to re-sign Spanish left-back Angelino from PSV Eindhoven.
The European champions have not been so active this summer in purchasing top players. They have signed a promising youngster from Fulham who is the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League. Harvey Elliot is only sixteen and has attracted a lot of clubs including the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and RB Leipzig but Liverpool have won the race. Another youngster was purchased from PEC Zwolle. Sepp Van Den Berg was signed for a reported sum of £1.71 million.
The Gunners have made some purchases that will be an asset this season and in the nearby future. They have signed Dani Cellabos from Real Madrid on a one year-loan. William Saliba was bought from Saint-Etienne, the youngster came at a price of around £27 million and was sent on loan immediately to his previous club. Reiss Nelson can also be a crucial player in Unai Emery`s squad as he was showing great potential with Hoffenhaim in the Bundesliga. He has signed a contract for four years. From the beginning, Arsenal wanted a winger with pace and have reached an agreement with LOSC Lille for Nicolas Pepe’ for a sum of £72 million. The Ivorian has signed a five-year contract with the club and will be earning around £6 million a year.
Spurs have also invested in their youths making the purchase of Jack Clarke, who was sent on loan to Leeds immediately to gain more experience in the first team. Their summer hit is no doubt the player that was wanted by several teams; the Frenchman Tanguy Ndombele was bought for a reported sum of £54 million.
The Red Devils will surely want Champions League football back at Old Trafford. They are looking to improve their squad with the new signing; that of the Englishman Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He came at a reported sum of £49.50 million from Crystal Palace and signed a five-year contract. Daniel James is also a new addition in Solskjaer’s squad as he had a positive season in the Championship last year and was signed for a sum of around £15 million. He has also signed a five-year contract with the club.
The Blues have managed to seal the deal with Real Madrid for Matteo Kovacic. The Croatian was already on loan with Chelsea but the club had plans to sign him on a permanent contract for a sum of £40.50 million. Christian Pulisic will now play for Chelsea, as he was immediately sent on loan with the German giants Borussia Dortmund. In January 2019 the American became the most valuable player in the history of the USA as Chelsea paid £58 million to Dortmund and he is getting around a £25,000 a week salray and has signed the contract until the year 2024.
The new promoted side have made some important signings to keep up with their impressive campaign last year. Their top transfer is that of the Brazilian forward, Wesley. ‘The Lions’ paid Club Brugge a sum of £22.50 million and came to an agreement with the Brazilian to sign a five-year contract. Another important signing is Tyrone Mings who was already on loan with this side in the Championship, he arrived at the club at a reported fee of £20.07 million. Douglas Luiz is also another Brazilian who joined ‘The Villains’. A £15.12 million fee was paid for the 21 year old midfielder who used to play with Manchester City. The Brazilian signed a 4-year contract. Matt Targett can be crucial in Dean Smith’s squad as he is still young and has shown great potential last season with ‘The Saints’.
They have had an excellent season in the Premier League finishing in 7th place and reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup after their downfall to the lower leagues. One of their best players who was on loan last year has signed a permanent deal with the club and Wolves had to pay £34.20 million to Benfica for Raul Jimenez. The Mexican has signed a contract until the year 2023. He has been clinical in front of goal, ending the season with 13 goals to his name. Another player who was on loan is Leander Dendoncker who has also signed a permanent deal. The club came to an agreement for Spain’s under 21 captain, Jesus Vallejo. The Real Madrid defender is on a one year loan. Wolves have spent £16.20 million for the Italian forward, Patrick Cutrone. He has signed a deal for 4 years with the club.
Following the departure of Idrissa Gueye to PSG, ‘The Toffees’ came to an agreement with Barcelona for Andre Gomes after his loan spell with Everton. A reported fee of £22.50 million was paid for the Portuguese midfielder and the Uefa Euro winner has signed for 5 years. ‘The Blues’ also purchased Fabian Delph from Manchester City for a sum of £8.55 million.
‘The Foxes’ signed Ayoze Perez from Newcastle and the fans are anxious to see the partnership of Jamie Vardy and that of the Spaniard. He came at a price of £30.06 million and the 25-year-old striker has signed a four-year contract with Leicester after they activated the buy-out clause in his contract and beat off competition from a number of leading European clubs. Leicester have pressed ahead with their attempt to sign Youri Tielemans from Monaco who arrived at the club for a fee of £40.50 million. He has now joined the club on a permanent deal after being on loan and has signed a four-year contract.
Pablo Fornals is the first signing for ‘The Irons’ from Villareal for a sum of £25.20 million. The club wants the Spanish attacking midfielder to replace the Austrian star Marko Arnautovic who joined Shangai SGIH in China. Another important signing is Sebastian Haller, the new partnership in attack is taking place as two summer singings are looking to strengthen the attack of West Ham. The Frenchman arrived at a reported sum of £35 million from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Joelinton broke the club-record fee of around £40 million from Hoffeinham. Newcastle’s coach Steve Bruce had several words of praise for the Brazilian. He scored 7 goals in the Bundesliga and is set for a bright future ahead as he is modern day player. He signed a long-term contract with ‘The Magpies’ of 6 years.
The new promoted side and the current Championship winners have not invested in a lot of players. The transfer window is still open and there is still a chance for the teams to make new arrivals or even sell a player. It will close on the 8th of August. There are still some interesting transfers that are still pending, including that of Harry Maguire joining Manchester United but ‘The Foxes’ are demanding £90 million for the defender. ‘The Red Devils’ are said to have made contact with Paulo Dybala and a possible swap deal between the Argentinian and Romelu Lukaku is still possible. Dybala has also been linked to Spurs. Everton and Juventus are close to an agreement for Moise Kean. Juventus want to make a buy-back clause to Everton for the Italian youngster, for him to get more experience, as he could be one of Italy`s brightest players. Giovani Lo Celso is expected to sign for Spurs in the upcoming days for a sum of £54.6 million while Chirstian Eriksen refused to sign his contract with the club. Manchester City have reopened their talks with Juventus for Joao Cancelo after their initial offer was rejected by the Italian champions.
