PN – URGENT NEED TO SORT THE MESS

Posted by Andre Carbonaro on 28th June 2019 in Uncategorised

Truth be said; the saga within the Nationalist Party has now been going for too far and too long. It has unfortunately come too close to the point of no return and once this threshold is crossed, and this probability is becoming more imminent by the day, with every comment that is posted on social media, with every accusation, with every doubt cast, with every malicious phone call, with every ounce of mud slung. The situation is really desperate now!

The quench for revenge has at this point become insatiable. The sparring factions have become blood thirsty to an unacceptable degree, beyond any reason, beyond their reason of being. This quarrel has degenerated and is no longer about the best interests of the party any longer and it has ceased to be so for a long time now. This argument has gone down to one thing and one thing only now – revenge!

If ever there was a reason, a cause to argue about, this has been blown out of proportion in a way that cannot even be described. This saga has now seen lifelong friends, many of which went through hard times together working for the party, when there really was a cause to fight about, become bitter at each other, trading blows, maybe not physically yet but certainly mentally and verbally, and this is just not right!

This bitter argument has hit deep, hurt the grass roots, aimed at the heart of those that have been Nationalist supporters since birth and have followed the party quasi blind folded through thick and thin for years. It has hit hard especially those that have throughout their existence suffered injustices for believing in a cause, those who always had their mind at rest that whatever may, their party, the Nationalist party, would always be their sword and their shield. Now, all of a sudden, the fortress they always thought would keep them safe is crumbling, falling rapidly and this not because it is being attacked by political adversaries but because it is being dismantled from within.

This has to stop. Deep down, all those involved know that a ceasefire is the only solution, the only way forward, and with it a renewal process that digs deep, and cleanses thoroughly. This is very easy to say and very pleasing to write about. Making it happen in reality is another different matter altogether. But there really is no other plausible choice. In order for this to start happening there need to be two very important ingredients, respect and humility.

If the two factions do not take a step backwards and take with them their followers, then I am afraid that little or nothing can be achieved, and then a day will come when everyone will realise that the Partit Nazzjonalista will obliterate itself into political insignificance and become politically irrelevant. It will be too late then. All the squabbles and the fights would have led to know where. All the accusations would have been futile.

All those involved owe it to the country to get their act straight and ensure that the PN is a valid opposition. Most of all though, they owe it to the Nationalist Party itself. They owe to those who were beaten because they spoke of freedom, they owe it to all those who left their jobs and sometimes their families to ensure justice in this country was served. The PN was always on the forefront to ensure that democracy reigns supreme and now it has the opportunity to prove this by renewing itself, by rising from the ashes and become the strong force it once was. The country needs the PN. The country needs the brilliant minds within the PN to work together and not against each other.

In the meantime we will wait and hope that once again, common sense will prevail.
