In the PL and PN circles there are discussions who should take the leadership of their respective parties.
In the PL many are hoping that Miriam Dalli will decide to contest the leadership if Muscat really calls it a day. Although it does not seem that Miriam Dalli pronounced herself many are those who believe she will take the challenge particularly in view of the clear message the electorate gave during the 2019 MEP elections.
On the other hand, although Delia has clearly stated he is not leaving, a faction within the PN still believes they can send him home. Sources say they want to push Metsola forward because one she is from the faction that they want and secondly being a woman and the first in such a post would lead to attracting back some votes.
Whether any of the above materializes I certainly do not know. However, it would be a challenge for Maltese politics and certainly we would attract positive attention from international fora.
On the less positive side is that they are both seen as too soft and possibly not with the necessary charisma to lead a party although both were front runners in the aforementioned election. Will we have the first women Prime Minister in 2022?
