150 Salzburg firefighters passed performance tests

Candidates sometimes undergo several months of training

Respiratory protection performance testing for bronze, silver and gold levels took place on Saturday at the Salzburg State Fire Brigade School. 50 teams, three firefighters each, took up the challenge.

Performance testing has been carried out in the state of Salzburg for over 20 years. Candidates put their skills and abilities to the test here, sometimes after intensive training sessions. The objective is to complete different, task-like stations safely and within reasonable time. This extensive training guarantees better cooperation in the event of an emergency.

The following stations must be passed for successful completion:

  • Theory Test (List of Questions)
  • Level 3 Proper Donning of Protective Clothing (Level 3 – Gold Only)
  • Preparation and proper donning of compressed air breathing apparatus
  • Saving people
  • fire fighting
  • Equipment knowledge and mask cleaning

50 firemen are involved in the search

A total of 50 groups underwent performance testing. Each squad has three firefighters. All the teams achieved their goal.

  • 29 Tier 1 Teams (Bronze)
  • 13 Tier 2 Teams (Silver)
  • 8 Teams for Level 3 (Gold)

Performance badges for moderators

Assessors are also recognized for their work as assessors as part of awarding performance badges at the highest level 3 (Gold). A badge of assessor qualification at Level 2 was awarded to Chief Fire Chief Michael Niederbrücker of the St. Gilgen Fire Department, Abersee (Flachgau) Fire Department. The Appraiser Merit Badge at Level 3 was awarded to Fire Chief Martin Islitzer of the Strobl Fire Department and Executive Inspector Thomas Weiglhofer of the Seekirsen Fire Department.
