62 families living in eight social housing blocks in Qormi will benefit from a better quality of life after an investment of €300,000 in the regeneration works of the façades of these blocks.
During a visit to the social housing blocks in Vjal de la Cruz, Minister for Social Accommodation Roderick Galdes recalled that the residents of these blocks had been waiting for this project for years.
“Back in 1994, in the years I served in the Qormi Local Council, I remember residents expressing their concerns about the dilapidated state that existed in these housing areas. Due to these investments and a strong economy, today, we can give something back to these residents and guarantee the quality of life they surely deserve.”
He added that the Government does not distinguish between social classes as it believes that every person deserves to live in a proper and decent environment.
“Investments in the regeneration of housing areas are essential for this important section of our population to ensure that they live a better life. The surrounding communities also benefit from such projects as they are aesthetically improving our villages and towns where the total number of people residing in social housing apartments adds up to 5,000.”
Minister Roderick Galdes concluded by saying that 2021 will result in more regeneration projects that will benefit hundreds of families living in social housing around Malta.
Regeneration works are being carried out by the Housing Authority in collaboration with the Housing, Maintenance and Embellishment Ltd as part of a total investment of €2.6 million which is offering a better quality of life to 500 families.
