PN: 839 out of 1509 councillors vote for election of leader

Posted by Vento on 2nd August 2020 in Local News

Nationalist Party councillors have voted that once again party members are to vote in an election for the Leader, in what is being considered as the third vote of no confidence in Adrian Delia. The Councillors had two choices, namely whether the PN members should vote in an election for what would basically be a new  leader or another vote of confidence in Adrian Delia.

In all 1509 Councillors voted in this ballot, a total of 93% of all eligible councillors. 839 voted in favour of an election for the leader, while 659 voted in favour of the members voting in a vote of confidence in Adrian Delia. This has now triggered a long process which may take weeks. Meanwhile, Adrian Delia has already stated that he will be contesting the upcoming leadership election.

This situation has evolved in the wake of several polls showing that Delia is not trusted by the absolute majority of the electorate but primarily after chats between Yorgen Fenech (the owner of the company 17 Black and the alleged mastermind of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia ) and Adrian Delia were published in the local media.

Meanwhile, in a news conference late last night, PN leader, Adrian Delia, said that he will be submitting his name back in the race for the election of a leader. He said he is confident that members will be able to choose the policy of the many and not the few. Delia said that if the member select a new leader, he will be respecting the decision and will fully support the new leader. On the other hand, he said that if he is reaffirmed as a leader, he will be changing faces within the PN. Delia said his campaign motto would be “A New Way, with New People.”

Delia said that if he does not cast his name for this election, he will be failing the PN party members, especially after the last three years, wherein he has been confirmed twice as leader of the PN.
