In a joint meeting held yesterday evening the Labour Party’s National Executive and Parliamentary Group at the Centru Nazzjonali Laburista, decided that with immediate effect, MP and ex-Minister Konrad Mizzi will no longer form part of the party’s Parliamentary Group. Through a secret ballot for the motion tabled by the Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party, Robert Abela it transpired that there were 71 votes in favour of removing Mizzi, one vote against and one abstention.
Commenting at the end of a meeting of the party’s executive, the Prime Minister said that this Government has two more years of work left in this legislature and will not call an early election.
“Our standards as a party and as a Government are of the highest standard. Today we set the highest standards for ethics and political behaviour,” said Prime Minister Robert Abela in a comment to journalists.
This situation developed in the light of allegations that emerged from reports by international media house Reuters about alleged corruption in the Montenegro wind farm project.
