The Association of Catering Establishments (ACE) welcomes the Government decision for opening of indoor or outdoor dining. It is an important decision that will allow slow recovery ACE would like to encourage Government in its drive to re-establish consumer confidence.
There will obviously be some teething challenges in the re-opening and in this sense ACE appreciates the approach taken by Government focusing on Education and not penalties.
ACE however, iterates that the level of costs that catering establishments are subject to render the establishments not sustainable at this stage. The fact that many landlords have either not reduced rents or the fact that those who reduced it during closure are now requesting rent to return to normal levels is a major issue.
The level of consumption expected and consequently revenue will not justify neither the costs of personnel, nor water and electricity nor MTA permits amongst others.
In this context, ACE calls on Government to extend the wage supplement beyond June 2020 for by a further two months after which one may reassess the situation.
ACE appreciates also the flexibility announced by the Prime Minister regarding the encroachment areas.
