The immigrant from the Hal Far open centre who, earlier this week escaped from Boffa Hospital after being found positive for Coronavirus is expected to be fined € 10,000. In an interview with news portal inewsmalta.com, Minister for Justice, Equality and Good Governance, Edward Zammit Lewis, reiterated that “no one is above the law” and the immigrant in question will be fined accordingly.
In the same interview Zammit Lewis explained that according to the legal notice published by the Government, in this case the person will incur the sum of € 10,000. Minister Zammit Lewis said the Government is committed to ensuring that everyone complies with the law and the directives, as well as providing effective and adequate enforcement.
Asked about the fact that as an immigrant he may not have enough money to pay this fine, the Minister said that it is up to the Courts to take appropriate measures in case such a person does not or cannot pay the fined sum.
