New specialized COVID 19 testing machine to perform up to 800 tests a day

Posted by Vento on 3rd April 2020 in Local News

Malta is one of the first countries in Europe to start using a specialized COVID 19 testing machine. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Chris Fearne visited the Department of Pathology at Matter Dei, as the final preparations were underway for this robotic machine to be up and running in the coming hours.

This specialized machine allows Mater Dei to process up to 800 tests per day, as it will reduce test processing time to minutes. This means that the Health Authorities will be in a position to deliver the coronavirus test result on the same day it is taken.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that our country has access to this advanced equipment because it was wise and took every possible proactive action promptly, including such an investment.

Deputy Prime Minister Fearne recalled that this is one of the number of measures the Ministry of Health is taking to control the wave of infections that may be coming to our country. “The more tests we do at this early stage, the more we will be able to immediately treat patients who are positive for COVID 19, and at the same time isolate them immediately to prevent the spread of this virus,” stressed the Minister, thanking all the workers in their field of dedicated health care.
