ACE – Let’s keep putting minds at rest to avoid panic

Posted by Reuben Buttigieg - President of ACE on 13th March 2020 in Local News

The Association of Catering Establishments is pleased to note that its recommendations are being taken into account. Indeed, certain banks have already taken measures to assist businesses. In addition, the ACE welcomes the announcement of Hon Mr Silvio Schembri that the Government will be announcing measures to assist businesses. In order to put minds at rest for businesses and employees, ACE would appreciate if these matters are communicated at the earliest. ACE notes that the first VAT payments are due next week, and it would be opportune to communicate measures related to VAT by next Monday.

Members of ACE have felt the impact of public worries to the extent that some of them started to close in view of lack of clientele. In this context, ACE insists that measures taken by Government in order to assist in the retention of employees are announced at the immediate. Timely communication is of utmost importance.

ACE would like to congratulate Hon Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela and Hon Deputy Prime Minister Dr Chris Fearne who are taking precautionary measures in order to avoid escalation of preoccupation that could lead to a disastrous effect. The practical measures announced today are laudable and we encourage cautiousness in any further measures necessary.

ACE encourages Prime Minister to ensure timely communications also with respect to economic measures.
