In a vote taken in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after a long Executive Committee meeting, former PN MEP and party veteran Francis Zammit Dimech has been appointed as interim Secretary General for the PN, after Clyde Puli’s resignation last week.
Sources close to Dar Ċentrali said that final vote tally was 56 votes to 6 with 11 committee members who chose to abstain, including leader Adrian Delia and former Secretary General Clyde Puli. In its statement, however, Partit Nazzjonalista did not publish the vote.
Francis Zammit Dimech will occupy the interim role until the reform process which is being spearheaded by former MP and party veteran Louis Galea is completed. Zammit Dimech had served as an MP between 1987 and 2017, occupying various cabinet positions for a total of 16 years between 1990 and 2013. He served briefly as a member of the European Parliament between 2017 and 2019.
