A crowdfunding page set up by Cottonera activist group Azzjoni: Tuna Artna Lura seeks to raise enough funds to fight AUM’s appeal of the PA’s decision which refused the same university’s application for further development. The application seeks what Tuna Artna Lura deems as ‘destructive development’ and pledges to continue as ‘Cottonera residents to fight to defend open spaces and important Maltese heritage’.
On its crowdfunding page the group continues that, ‘David beat Goliath, and the monstrous application was refused! BUT Goliath is BACK and flexing his money muscle! AUM are appealing the refusal of the PA.’ The group intends to fight the appeal, which they claim requires money, specifically for Legal and architectural fees, Reports and research, Printing, design and resources and Transfer Fees.
Their appeal on the crowdfunding page ends with the following ‘We have a team willing to put in the work and time, but we need the money to get the professionals and the tools. We will not let Goliath’s money muscle intimidate us. The proposed development was monstrous before and is still monstrous’.
