Today, paid up members of the Labour Party will be choosing a new leader. It was at about 8:00 a.m. this morning that the polling stations opened in various districts, many of which are Labour Party Clubs spread around the islands. Some 17,500 paid-up Labour Party members are eligible to vote on Saturday. Voting will continue until 8 p.m with the actual vote counting taking place at the Centru Nazzjonali Laburista in Hamrun with the result expected to be announced overnight. The new leader is expected to be sworn in as prime minister sometime next week.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, accompanied by his wife Michelle, cast his vote for the new PL Leader at the Labour Party Club in Naxxar. Party supporters present at the club took the opportunity to once again thank the Prime Minister for his work. Leadership candidate, Robert Abela also cast his vote earlier this morning as did Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health, Chris Fearne, who urged those eligible to vote to join him in casting their vote.
