8 residents at Corradino Correctional Facility spent Christmas with their families

Posted by Vento on 28th December 2019 in Local News

In pursuance of the governmental policy of rehabilitation of inmates serving a sentence in prison, the Correctional Services Agency carried out a test and sent eight low risk inmates to their homes in order to spend a few hours with their families on Christmas Day. All inmates who benefited from this privilege were electronically tagged and were monitored by the Agency at all times.

Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Michael Farrugia said that this project is part of the government commitment to enhance the residents’ rehabilitation process and reintegrate them back in society. Minister Farrugia maintained that the monitoring and the testing of this project will continue in the near future.

This experiment is another part of the pilot project in lieu of the Budgetary Measure for 2020 whereby electronic tagging will be extended to a wider spectrum of inmates.
