It is almost the 25th… the day we celebrate of our Lord Jesus Christ’s birth; a day in which all people of goodwill come together to reconcile their differences, forget all that that divides them and find unity in a simple manger where the son of God began his humble and holy life. We might be waylaid by the distractions of our modern celebrations, but the true spirit of Christmas lies elsewhere… The gift of empathy, kindness, of sharing, the precious gift of time, the gift of being emotionally present and switched on for our loved ones, these are the gifts which endure well beyond the day the last tinsel is swept away … and what’s more, these are gifts which are readily available, stowed quietly in our hearts, if only we take the time to look hard enough within ourselves…
Let us also look properly around us; Christmas could be a lonely and very sad time for some people; the recently bereaved, old neighbours, young families who are struggling, the sick of body and those of heart – even a kind word, short visit or small gift could make someone’s Christmas. The joy of this special day lies not in the gifts, the food or the decorations but the things family, friends and neighbours are going to remember – the love, the smiles, the laughter and the happiness of simply being together.
And with this in mind, here at maltawinds.com, we wish you all a truly blessed Christmas and may the birth of our Lord bring you peace, comfort and joy.
