The next fundamental step is to commit energy towards a united goal, which will see our country emerge as a much stronger nation – Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Schembri
When addressing Financial Services Redefined- Empowering the Future of Banking Conference, Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Schembri referred to the challenging time Malta is currently facing yet one cannot put aside the successful results that were achieved during the past years. “While we acknowledge this regrettable scenario, we must also recognise that despite this situation, we have garnered several successful results to this end, which are ultimately due to the fact that our institutions are not only functioning appropriately but are strongly sustained by the endowment of additional resources”, Silvio Schembri said.
The next fundamental step is to commit energy towards a united goal, will see our country emerge as a much stronger nation. “Despite the sheer magnitude of these unfolding events, it is very heartening to be approached by investors who duly recognise our commitment and urge us to swiftly close this chapter in our history and ensure that justice is served. This kind of feedback boosts our morale and evidence shows that Malta still remains the idyllic European jurisdiction for foreign investment”, the parliamentary secretary said.
Parliamentary Secretary Schembri appealed for a sense of responsibility from a journalistic point of view for both a national and international level. At such a sensitive time it would be ideal to remind ourselves the power of journalism and its potential to unite or divide in equal measure, said Silvio Schembri.
He added that this backdrop served as a revelation for us all to further improve on the changes implemented so far and introduce new ones, however; one shall be striving to continue with the drive to implement a futuristic vision.
Shifting the subject on banking, Parliamentary Secretary Schembri said it is evident that banking institutions are facing numerous hurdles in their efforts to adjust to this new reality. “It is of extreme importance for the well-being, not only of the financial services sector itself but also for our country’s economy on the whole that these institutions adopt and adapt to the changes ahead and seek the myriad of opportunities these hold”, the parliamentary secretary added.
Parliamentary Secretary Schembri said that the road that will now be embarked on requires everyone’s commitment to move forward in a responsible manner while extending this message to practitioners in the financial services, as the gatekeepers of this sector.
