In a statement, the Labour Party said that Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi, despite trying to persevere with his fabrication that there was an increase in the Parliamentary Secretaries’ salaries, in the past hours has made a number of contradictory statements which negate each other.
In his effort to try and justify his ludicrous remarks, when he compared a full year’s salary with that of a half-year period, Jason Azzopardi only ended up mired in confusion, the Labour Party reiterated in its statement.
The statement added that the facts are very clear; when Jason Azzopardi occupied the post of Parliamentary Secretary, he benefitted from a salary of more than € 82,000. As clearly outlined by his declaration of assets, signed by Azzopardi himself, the then Parliamentary Secretaries were paid € 22,000 more than the current MPs occupying that post. This more than substantial increase in salaries was the result of the yearly salary raise which the members of the PN Cabinet at the time, had gifted themselves.
The Labour Party concluded its statement by saying that, “the only difference (in pay) was that after the change of government in 2013, the increase in salaries previously dished out by a PN government, was abolished altogether. Consequently, the current Parliamentary Secretaries are ultimately paid far less than the person who fabricated this lie. Small wonder, that even his own leader said of Azzopardi that ‘he was a waste of time’ “.
