Sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered an increase in the second quarter, compared to the same quarter in 2018.
In total, 1,575,472 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo in the specified period, which means that there was an increase by 2.6%, compared to the same quarter last year.
The highest number of passengers was reached in June, when 534,433 passengers, equalling 33.9% of the total for the quarter, made trips between Malta and Gozo. The number of vehicles also increased, reaching 454,818, meaning that there was a 7.5% increase.
In terms of trips made, 6,289 trips were made during the second quarter, meaning that there was an increase of 8.9% when compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Most of the trips were done in June, with 2,318 passengers or 36.9% of the total number of trips for the quarter.
Ever since the start of 2019, up until June, passenger traffic starting from Ċirkewwa was the busiest on Friday and Saturday, whilst the most amounts of trips from Mġarr were recorded on Sunday and Saturday.
These show that the number of passengers travelling between Malta and Gozo go in line with what was expected from data of previous years, with a steady increase as the summer seasons approach.
