The chief investigator in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Inspector Keith Arnaud, categorically denied a local newspaper article, alleging that the attorney general is expected to submit a last-minute indictment, against the three men to stand trial for her murder. This just before the expiration of the 20-month period since their arrest, after which period has expired, the accused will automatically be released.
In connection with this murder stand accused brothers Alfred and George Degorgio known as ‘il-Fulu’ and ‘ iċ-Ċiniż’ together with Vince Muscat, ‘il-Koħħu’.
In a Facebook post, Inspector Arnaud wrote that the author of the Malta Independent article quoted bogus sources and reiterated that the report is far removed from the truth. Inspector Arnaud maintained that the only true sources, namely the investigators themselves, have no plan to lock up the three accused of the murder and throw away the key as alleged in the same article published in The Malta Independent.
He concluded his Facebook post by saying that this article may prejudice the case which is still being heard before the court, and targeting the author of the piece wrote, “it is your responsibility that before you publish anything, whether it’s coming from a source or some sort of fantasy that you might have dreamt of, do have some decency and consider well the wording and any impact your article may have. This is apart from the fact that you have no idea how the legal system in Malta works.”
