The Board of Directors of Virtu Finance plc (the “Company”) is pleased to announce that Virtu Wavepiercer Limited, a company forming part of the Virtu Maritime Group, has taken delivery of its new high-speed passenger/cargo roll-on/roll-off catamaran ferry, the M/V Saint John Paul II, from shipbuilders Incat Tasmania Pty Ltd. The vessel began her maiden voyage to Malta, departing from Hobart in Tasmania, Australia, on the 6th February 2019 at 08:00 CET. The acquisition and commission of the vessel by Virtu Wavepiercer Limited was part-financed through the proceeds of the Company’s issue of €25,000,000 3.75% Unsecured Bonds 2027.
On arrival in Malta, the M/V Saint John Paul II will be deployed on the Malta – Sicily route operated by Virtu Ferries since 1988, resulting in an increased cargo and passenger capacity. The M/V Saint John Paul II can accommodate 900 passengers and 167 cars or 23 trailers, equivalent to 490 truck lane metres.
