Crypto mining no longer has a place in Google Play. Google sees cryptocurrency mining applications as a real risk for users. It follows suit with Apple who had already taken this initiative.
It’s official, the crypto-currency mining by phone is no longer popular with giants Google and Apple. In a recent report, Google expresses its change of position against these applications on its store Google Play. This update changes Google’s policy toward mobile app developers and directly impacts the apps in the store
The report says that Google allows applications that allow remote management of cryptocurrency extraction but that is no longer the case for those who can turn his smartphone cryptocurrency mining device.
This decision reinforces Google’s policy against all applications developed by independent developers. Indeed, Google has decided to exclude in April browser crypto mining extensions from its chrome web store due to a non-compliance with the current policy of it or because these extensions were actually used to malicious purposes.
As a reminder, this decision comes in parallel with the measures taken by Apple, which has also decided to regulate this environment on their devices. Last month Apple also announced the modification of its rules against developers on the App Store, prohibiting any application of this type.
If Apple has gone further by banning previously and for a while the ability to make cryptocurrency purchases, it has reopened this possibility a little with special constraints, requiring developers to negotiate each crypto with it. This is also the reason why applications such as Bitfinex do not have the same cryptocurrency negotiable on IOS mobile computer.
Still, these measures are correlated with the habits that hackers take to turn to its methods to divert cryptocurrency users. Kaspersky, a cyber security company that operates Kaspersky antivirus software, announced in a June report that misuse of devices to encrypt the device in exchange for ransom had reached 44.5% a year. Lastly, Skybox security has declared in one of its reports that the illegal extraction of cryptocurrency had become more popular than ransomware this year.
