According to latest data published by the National Statistics Office (NSO), a total of 1,121,001 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the first quarter this year, up by 7.8 per cent when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2017. The highest number of passengers was recorded in March – 450,363 or 40.2 per cent of the total for the quarter. The number of vehicles increased by 5.9 per cent, totalling 339,266.
The number of trips amounted to 5,259, an increase of 0.8 per cent over the same period in 2017. The majority of trips took place in March – 1,874 or 35.6 per cent of total trips for the quarter.
During this period, passenger traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays, whereas highest numbers from Mġarr were recorded on Sundays and Saturdays.
